Office Block 1 is part of a mixed-use development on an island site in the centre of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. The development also includes a 260 bed Jury’s hotel, a multi-storey car park, a 12-storey block of 143 apartments and retail units and another eight storey office block, both with basement parking. Office Block 1 is a 7-storey steel-framed structure, comprising 16m clear span cell-beams with a composite metal deck and in-situ concrete slabs. Cell-beams were chosen for their ease of service integration and long spanning capabilities which reduced the number of columns required and maximized floor areas and therefore the flexibility of the office layouts.
