Resource Centre, St Mary’s, Ardmore
St Mary’s Resource Centre is a single-storey structure that provides facilities suitable for a variety of activities within the local community.
Favourable ground conditions permitted the use of traditional strip foundations to support load-bearing masonry walls. Some walls are faced with natural stone to complement the adjacent church building.
Pre-cambered glulam rafters (fabricated using timber from certified sustainable forests) give the roof a distinctive shape and allow the main hall to be free from columns. The rafters are supported on an in-situ concrete ring beam by specially designed steel posts, which are integral with the high level curtain walling and permit an uninterrupted glazing strip around the building.
