St Columb’s Park House, Derry-Londonderry

St. Columb’s Park House is an 18th century manor house situated in parkland on the Waterside of Derry. The house was originally renovated in 1994, and was then established as a Centre for Reconciliation, with full conferencing and function facilities for the local community.

Taylor & Boyd LLP provided full structural and civil engineering services for this renovation project. The project involved the complete overhaul of the internal room layouts and circulation spaces in line with the Architectural proposals of the building to meet current Building Control regulations. These new proposals involved the installation of new steel frames and beams to create new openings in existing walls and elevations, the installation of a new lift with an internal lift pit and the underpinning works required for such a structure adjacent to existing walls and foundations. The proposals also included for the infilling of an internal courtyard area to create a new café area and adjacent kitchen area.

The new internal toilets, kitchens and roof layouts all required discharge flow integration into the current sewerage system to the site and Taylor & Boyd coordinated this design with a full CCTV survey of the existing drainage to assess the current network condition and to develop the best suited needs for this remote site.

We worked closely with statutory agencies to ensure that a contemporary vision was achieved within conservation guidelines. (Photos courtesy of Woodvale Construction)
