Beyond Engineering

TAYLOR+BOYD operates several focussed internal teams to maintain standards and drive improvements across all aspects of our business. All Teams are chaired by senior management with members invited through all levels of staff, creating a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and critical thinking.

Environmental & Sustainability

Environmental and Sustainability reviews are integral to every TAYLOR+BOYD project, led by our Environmental Manager.   We operate an Environmental Management System to ISO 14001 on all applicable projects, certified by a third-party assessor.  

We are committed to delivering projects in line with the working standards set out in the UN Sustainable Development Goals and undertake carbon calculations based on the IStructE Structural Carbon Tool to ensure that our designs are developed with sustainability at the forefront of our project delivery. 

Health & Safety

Health & Safety has been maintained at high levels in TAYLOR+BOYD since its inception in 1962. We conform to ISO 45001, an audited standard which is certified annually, and which is so established in our ethos and practice that we are often appointed to oversee Health & Safety in the delivery of projects.  

Technical Standards

Technical standards are maintained across the TAYLOR+BOYD staff base through three core commitments: 

  • Codes and Standards: All technical staff members have access to a live, online repository of current design codes and standards of practice. 
  • Training and Investments: All staff members have individual Training Plans customised to their roles and geared towards their career development.   
  • Research Champions: A team of technical staff, led by an Associate, regularly holds workshops to discuss new industry developments and identify topics to research, with a champion assigned to each topic. 

Digital Strategy

At TAYLOR+BOYD, we’re committed to staying at the forefront of technology to enhance the way we work and the value we deliver. We continuously research emerging digital tools and innovations that can strengthen our technical capabilities and improve our service offerings. To support progress, we invest in high-performance hardware and advanced software to streamline analysis, design, communication and data resilience.  

 Our Belfast and Derry offices are serviced by robust wired FTTP connections, with full wired ethernet networks and high-speed wireless connectivity, ensuring seamless access to digital resources and smooth collaboration across locations. 

Staff Health & Wellbeing

At TAYLOR+BOYD, we prioritise the Health & Wellbeing of our staff, understanding that their personal and professional circumstances are key to maintaining a thriving workplace. Our supportive working environment actively encourages the improvement of staff health and wellbeing and offers ample opportunities for individuals to realise their optimum working conditions.

Social & Charity Events

Our internal social team comprises staff members through from recently joined Graduate engineers to Partners, meeting regularly to discuss event opportunities and implement an events calendar for both staff socialisation and charity fundraising.  

The team has clear communication channels with staff with our charity selected each year through anonymous polling, and the team regularly inviting suggestions for new event ideas. Staff involvement in the social activities is encouraged both by the team and through senior management, with the aim of breaking down any perceived grade barriers and improving overall work environment cohesion.  

In addition to our annual events, such as entry into Belfast marathon, end-of-summer BBQ, Christmas party and hamper raffle, some example events over the past few years include: 

  • Weekend study trip to Barcelona 
  • Derry office opening party 
  • Charity coffee morning 
  • Derry to Belfast charity cycle
