Premier Inn Heathrow T4, Drainage Box Culvert
This 160m-long box culvert was designed to act as a foul water storage tank with restricted discharge to the public sewer. Taylor & Boyd’s design of the storage system included hydraulic modelling.
The culvert is fed by a 550m rising main from Crowne Plaza Hotel and a 250m rising main from Premier Inn Hotel, both on the Heathrow T4 site.
Working to precise airport standards, the rising main was directionally drilled beneath the A30 carriageway.
The box culvert’s internal dimensions are 1.5 x 3.0m, and was constructed in reinforced concrete, with precise detailing required at joint locations.
Taylor & Boyd’s engineers worked in close liaison with Thames Water to procure an Impact Study, plus adoption and connection approvals. We supervised the on-site construction, and inspected quality of construction against design.
