St. Louis Grammar School, Ballymena
The building works comprised the refurbishment of a three storey Convent building and the construction of a new two storey Media & Creative Arts Centre.
Our works on the Convent Building included the replacement of structural floors, plus strengthening existing areas of floor joists that were determined as unsuitable for education use. Stone clad bay windows also had to be reconstructed due to degradation of existing concrete substrate and steel heads. To provide the necessary classroom spaces, a number of load-bearing stone rubble walls had to be removed, requiring steelwork frames to transfer loads to new concrete foundations.
The Media Centre was constructed in a mixture of steel frame, supporting pre-cast concrete floor slab units, and solid masonry walls. There are a number of roof levels, formed in a mixture of timber joists & roof trusses.
