Newmarket Street, Derry / Londonderry

 

Public realm refurbishment of the main pedestrian route between the city’s two main shopping centres. The works included realignment of a section of Newmarket Street to create a plaza amphitheatre style area with wide sweeping curved steps, new pavements, kerbing, street furniture and lighting. The aim was to provide an enhanced urban pedestrian zone that complemented the redeveloped section of the city centre, as well as creating a social meeting place.

The scheme included the construction of a retaining wall to support the realigned roadway while maintaining services access to the adjacent Shopping Centre.
