Refurbishment and extension of Victorian railway station to enhance train, bus, taxi, car, cycle and pedestrian interface
Improvements to staff offices, accommodation for ticket sales and passenger waiting, toilets, extended hard-standing areas and car parking; Park & Ride facility
Extensive site investigations included Waste Acceptance Clarification Testing and the proving of rock levels below the site for the installation of a Ground Source Heat pump. During construction T&B carefully inspected and integrated the new extension foundations up to the bearing levels of the existing Victorian station building walls that were retained in the works. The steel framed station extension made use of a ‘Green roof’ and full height fenestration to better insulate and light the new facility and existing buildings.
New manholes were installed at Park & Ride and the building/bus area. Petrol interceptors and wash-down separators were integrated with the drainage system, which was linked into the existing watercourse system (part of which was and culverted beneath railway lines. Access roads were upgraded and new pedestrian facilities were upgraded for improved safety and comfort.
Aided by our experience of public transport agencies and their associated regulations, a carefully planned programme ensured that the station remained operational throughout. TAYLOR+BOYD engineers were trained in Personal Track Safety and all works were completed in compliance with NIR standards.
