PROJECT CHALLENGES:
Controlled demolition and construction in a confined city-centre space
Redevelopment of an existing court yard to provide a new public space
The garden includes hard and soft landscaping with a performance area and covered canopy. The courtyard is accessible from entrances at Bishop Street and Pump Street.
Structural design included the stage and canopy, plus partial demolition of an existing rear extension to No 16 Bishop Street followed by the construction of a replacement stair and lift shaft and new three storey extension.
We also designed the new storm and foul drainage systems within the site.
TAYLOR+BOYD supervised the complex demolition and shoring works.
This project required the design and construction of reinforced concrete, structural steelwork, and load-bearing masonry to achieve the architectural vision.
