PROJECT CHALLENGES:
Detailed planning of health & safety during cliff-top construction; pile-founded cantilevers
Two fully-accessible viewing platforms that extend to the edge of the cliffs, maximising views of Whiterocks Beach to the west and Dunluce Castle to the east
Both platforms enable viewers to engage with dramatic panoramic vistas of the North Antrim Coast.
The northwest installation is a cantilevered structural steel platform and bridge with stainless steel vertical fin balustrades. It is supported on piled foundations which transfer the loads to the bedrock below.
The northeast viewpoint is a ground-supported platform in reinforced concrete, also with fin balustrades of stainless steel.
Works included the construction of new pathways, parking facilities with associated drainage, soft landscaping, street furniture and signage.
