PROJECT CHALLENGES:
Design and construction to meet requirements of Heathrow Airport and Thames Water; drilling beneath busy, operational main road
160m-long box culvert designed to act as foul water storage tank with restricted discharge to the public sewer
This foul water storage culvert included hydraulic modelling. It is fed by a 550m rising main at Crowne Plaza Hotel and a 250m rising main from Premier Inn Hotel, both on the Heathrow site. Working to precise airport standards the rising main was directionally drilled beneath the A30 carriageway.
It was constructed in reinforced concrete, with an internal diameter of 1.5 x 3.0m.
TAYLOR+BOYD’s engineers worked in close liaison with Thames Water to procure an Impact Study, plus adoption and connection approvals.
We supervised the on-site construction and inspected quality of construction against design.
