Leading the Team
We offer a wide range of professional services beyond the delivery of the more typical civil and structural designs. Our highly skilled staff base has gained charterships across multiple professional institutions, ensuring expertise is on hand when required to fulfil our client’s bespoke needs.
Adaptive Reuse & Conservation
TAYLOR+BOYD has been involved in the redevelopment of many buildings throughout the UK and Ireland, extending their life through adaptation of existing structures for new uses, preserving historical significance and architectural character. When implemented effectively, this is a cost-effective approach that can form some truly exceptional spaces, whilst reducing environmental impact by minimising waste and avoiding the additional embodied carbon of new construction materials. Our involvement varies by project, with typical services including verification of existing structure through structural assessments, development of structural enhancements to enable the proposed redevelopment scheme, or working alongside sub-contractor specialists to develop tertiary requirements, such as connection details for balustrade enhancements or replacement façade systems.Â
Our experience includes many Historic and Listed buildings, working closely with conservation architects, archaeologists and other experts in the management of historic buildings and monuments.
Assessments and Reporting
TAYLOR+BOYD has provided structural & civil engineering advice on thousands of projects, including structural assessments, condition reports and site appraisals. Our services are delivered by senior chartered engineers, often working closely with Clients, Architects, Engineers of different disciplines and other design team members.  Â
We maintain a register of local, experienced sub-consultants for specialist survey works to dovetail into our own traditional services, including timber condition surveys, stonework construction assessment, material and load testing, and contamination testing & reporting.Â
Project Management
TAYLOR+BOYD has successfully undertaken the role of Project Manager along with our civil & structural engineering duties on numerous projects where there is a high degree of engineering content. Projects include construction of grass or 3G pitches; play parks; carparks; park & ride schemes; and structural repair & alterations. Our Senior Engineers are experienced in managing their in-house design teams and use this experience to oversee and control larger teams including external consultants. Â
Principal Designer Role
TAYLOR+BOYD is committed to a collaborative approach to Health & Safety, and in the role of Principal Designer we adopt holistic considerations of the works risks and their subsequent mitigation. We have successfully provided the services of Principal Designer on projects relating to the construction of housing, schools, hotels, hospitals, leisure centres and pitches, offices, places of worship, and transport facilities.Â
Sustainability
In developing designs for construction, TAYLOR+BOYD’s engineers are aware that they do so within the natural world. We develop sustainable solutions that will continue to respect the environment over the whole life of the project. This requires familiarity with the site and local area, its flora and fauna, the geology and the topography as available and assessed through commissioned reports. Â
Our engineers draw on decades of experience and liaise with relevant statutory bodies to maintain a high bar on embedded sustainability within our designs. Â
Expert Witness Services
Our senior engineers have extensive experience in the assessment of defects in buildings and associated infrastructure, and the reporting on same. Most of our investigatory and reporting work is carried out for commercial clients, insurance companies and loss adjusters. We also prepare reports for solicitors and act as Expert Witnesses in legal cases including dealing with allegations of professional negligence.Â
