Bladon Park, Belfast
This development within a conservation area was completed over two phases: Phase 1: four semi-detached houses in a Victorian style plus one in an Arts & Crafts style; and Phase 2: six luxury apartments. Although the project did not involve any Listed buildings, it required sensitive design and meticulous planning applications, with close liaison between the design team and a number of statutory bodies.
Generally level but dipping slightly at one end, the site required the demolition of an obsolete sports pavilion and the protection of mature trees.
Taylor & Boyd designed new drainage with storm soakaways to SUDS standards, and a pumping station to link a foul sewer with the existing local system on Bladon Drive.
The requirement for envelope airtightness gave additional engineering challenges in relation to the alignment of structure with architectural vision. Our design solutions make positive contributions to:
- Thermal comfort with fewer draughts
- Economical heating
- Effective ventilation
- Reduced risk of damp and mould
