Crossmaglen Credit Union
These new-build three-storey premises were designed for construction on a vacant infill site within a commercial terrace at the centre of Crossmaglen.
A steel frame with pre-cast concrete floors are supported on traditional strip and pad foundations. The roof structure is cut timber on a steel truss with purlins which allows a wide columns free space across the banking hall.
The frontage is a glazed façade, behind which a double-storey atrium and interior first floor balcony provide a spacious ambience upon entry from the street.
Accommodation to the rear and on the upper floors includes a meeting room, offices, stores, staffroom, kitchenette and WC. Natural light is admitted through plain punched windows and roof Velux.
On the ground floor a reinforced concrete strong-room was designed to meet prescribed security specifications.
A lift, ramps and other features facilitate universal access and the building’s compliance with DDA.
With car parking at the rear, a high retaining wall incorporating steel parapet posts was constructed to replace a derelict rubble boundary wall. (Photographs courtesy of O’Hagan Architects)
