Doire Colmcille

This impressive new sports complex for Doire Colmcille CLG has transformed a difficult ‘land-locked’ eleven-acre site with anti-social issues into a vibrant community hub with first class facilities for all ages.

The existing green field had extensive slopes requiring a major ‘cut and fill’ exercise to accommodate a full size Gaelic pitch, clubhouse, car parking and training pitch, all on a site with level difference of over 21 metres.

The full size Gaelic football grass pitch construction and drainage system was fully designed ‘in-house’ by Taylor and Boyd.

Due to the surrounding residential properties, all boundary levels were maintained at existing levels, with the detailed balancing ‘cut and fill’ exercise ensuring that no material left the site as per Planning Conditions to avoid disruption of the neighbouring houses.

This required the use of 3D modelling software to ensure optimum levels were specified to account for construction build-ups on top of formation levels thereby ensuring compliance with Planning Permission.

This complex was officially opened by the President of the GAA in 2015. It is widely recognised as a top class community facility that is used for a variety of training and educational purposes as well as the provision of an excellent sports arena.
