Enniskillen Hospital
A new-build acute hospital constructed on a green field site outside Enniskillen. The project includes all elements of a stand-alone hospital including ward blocks, operating theatres, key workers’ accommodation, energy centre and multi-storey car park. It provides 300 en-suite public beds with associated support facilities including five operating theatres, and pathology laboratories. It was designed for the full range of health treatments including paediatric care, ICU and A&E.
The total area is 62,000m², with associated key workers’ accommodation of 4,000 m² and all associated external works, car parking, and ground reclamation.
The main hospital was designed on a concrete frame and comprises three blocks over four levels, linked by internal glazed atria.
The key workers accommodation comprises two three-storey blocks and a four-storey block and is designed as a load-bearing masonry frame with pre-cast concrete flooring and lightweight steel framed roof.
The energy centre comprises a braced steel frame generally single storey, but partly with intermediate floors, housing numerous boilers, turbines, storage tanks and associated plant.
As the site includes a steep drumlin surrounded by weak ground 3,500 piles were installed to support the buildings and infrastructure.
