Jury’s Hotel, Plymouth
Taylor & Boyd designed a 10-storey concrete frame to replace that of an existing 2-storey building. It was developed on a sloping site, with one side built into the ground and propping up an arterial route into Plymouth.
Demolition of the existing walls and rebuilding a new retaining wall was complex and required detailed sequential planning and design. As planning supervisors we had to be sure that coordination of the demolition process was planned meticulously.
The works were phased to avoid compromising the stability of the adjacent public road. This procedure was further complicated by the fact that demolition was undertaken within the enablement contract, thus introducing a change in main contractor under CDM Regulations.
Ensuring timely, accurate information and communication were essential throughout the project.
