This project comprised the design and construction of a new 3G synthetic pitch with perimeter fencing, ball-stop netting, divisional pitch netting system, floodlighting and other small ancillary works. The new pitch was constructed on a section of the existing basalt dust pitch located within the school grounds.
Taylor & Boyd provided lead consultancy and contract administration services as well as civil and structural engineering design, cost control consultancy, CDMC and site supervision services. The pitch was built to FIFA 1* 2009 standards, the GAA standard for Laboratory and Field Testing and the requirements of BSEN 15330, Part 1 as a surface designed primarily for football.
The 3G pitch was designed to have a dynamic base construction, ie hardcore sub-base under a prefabricated shockpad and 65mm deep pile synthetic carpet infilled with sand and rubber granules. Good environmental practices were employed, as only the existing dust surface was removed from the site.
As the new facility was constructed on the existing pitch area within the grounds of a large operational school, a careful and detailed Health & Safety procedure was developed.
