Peter Thompson Hall, Castlerock
Extensive renovations and improvements to an existing building and surrounding site works: additional floor area was added with three extensions and a bespoke curve-profiled sheet roof to increase the overall height. The facilities include a sports hall, changing rooms, committee rooms, viewing area, kitchen and associated plant rooms.
The structure is comprised of load-bearing masonry with a steel frame to form the clear span of the sport halls. A feature, curved roof was achieved with curved steelwork beams and sloping masonry walls to support cold-formed steel purlins. The foundations are conventional reinforced concrete strip foundations on deep ‘trench fill’ concrete down to suitable firm bearing.
An environmentally sustainable grey-water storage facility was included in the project, alongside innovative automated showers.
