Redevelopment of B1-Listed building as hotel, with extension to the rear
The front section of the building, with historical façade, was retained when the rear was demolished. The hotel also faces onto London Street at the side. Some of this elevation was renovated while some was demolished and rebuilt. The original Northern Counties building and those facing onto London Street are load bearing masonry structures with timber floors and roofs. Some of the joists required replacement due to rot; some floors required strengthening due to the increased loading of contemporary hotel facilities and function rooms.
The new infill extension to the rear of the buildings was constructed using a steel frame with composite concrete / decking floor.
The front section of the building is 4-storey with a basement, while the rear section is 3-storey.
This restored building is central to the community once again.
