PROJECT CHALLENGES:
The loading associated with new steel and reinforced concrete elements; constricted city-centre site; preservation of heritage façade
The sensitive redevelopment of a Victorian building to create a modern hotel
This Victorian building in the centre of Belfast required structural and decorative development.
Prior to construction, the structure was thoroughly assessed for stability and the load-bearing capacity necessary associated with a new steel frame, reinforced concrete floors, restored internal walls, and for the diverse facilities of the public spaces that were to be opened.
Collegial working of the design team continued through to carefully managed phases of construction on a site in a traffic hotspot at the very heart of the city.
