PROJECT CHALLENGES:
Brownfield site investigations of ground quality for foundations, and potential contamination
Development of versatile office accommodation
The redevelopment of this brownfield site included call-centre business units and ‘own door’ offices.
Business Units: essentially a 3 storey building with a 5-storey ‘core’ area of basement and upper gallery levels. The reinforced concrete frame with flat slab floor construction was externally clad in brick/block cavity walls. The pitched roof areas are supported off timber trussed rafters. Ground and basement slabs are suspended also, supported on pile caps or spanning between reinforced concrete ground beams into pile caps. Piles extend 9-12m to the underlying sandstone.
Own Door Offices: generally 4-storey constructions with additional basement and upper gallery levels over the core stair/lift areas; the own-door offices were of a similar construction to the business units described above.
